For a stress-free journey, we recommend using public transport. Whether through the Kandertal valley or from Valais through the Lötschberg tunnel, you can easily reach Kandersteg by train.

From the train station, a footpath (approx. 15 min.) leads directly to the valley station ofOeschinensee Cable car . From here, you can either take the Cable car walk up to the shore of Lake Oeschinen.

With a SBB Half-Fare Card/GA travelcard or a Swiss Travel Pass, you can ride the Cable car half price. Not valid for ski day tickets. Buy your ticket directly in our ticket shop.

Arrival by car
If you are traveling by car, you will pass through the village of Kandersteg and arrive directly at the Cable car valley station. We recommend arriving early, especially during peak season and on weekends when large numbers of visitors are expected.

If you are visiting Oeschinensee car, it is best to follow the signs on the main road towards Kandersteg. Immediately after the small bridge, opposite Käthy Sport + Mode, turn left and follow the road along the stream to the valley station.

Campers and vehicles over 5 meters in length and 2 meters in height cannot park at the valley station. Please park at the Schützenhaus parking lot or in the village. Limited number of spaces available.

Parking spaces in Kandersteg are limited on weekends and during the summer season. We recommend that you travel by public transport. Paid parking spaces are available at the valley station. Additional paid parking spaces are located in the village. Please follow the parking guidance system and the instructions of the local traffic service.

There are eight 11kW electric charging stations available in the "P2" parking lot at the valley station. You can still enter the parking lot even when it is full – simply press the button on the entrance column. Charging cables can be borrowed at the ticket office.

Please park only in the designated and signposted parking spaces or parking areas. Access roads must not be blocked.

Safe storage without lugging. The "Ski Racks" offer the possibility to store 1 pair of skis. "Ski racks are available at the bottom station (1st floor next to the toilets) and at the exit of the top station.

Skis can be stored for CHF 2 for 24 hours. The first 15 minutes are free of charge.

Yes, you can take a beautiful winter hike from the mountain station to the shores of Lake Oeschinen. When open, the Ice Walk on the frozen lake offers an additional special winter hiking opportunity. Good, warm winter hiking boots or snowshoes are required.

Is it possible to skate on Oeschinensee ?

No, in order for Oeschinensee to be opened for ice skating, the lake has to freeze "black". This only happens very rarely. If skating is possible, we will inform you on our website. Entering Lake Oeschinen is at your own risk. In addition, the information screens, information boards and barriers must be observed. There is no infrastructure on site, such as changing rooms or similar, and no skate rental. If the ice is covered with snow, skating is not possible - which is usually the case in winter.

Is there a snow park in the Oeschinensee ski area?

Can you go ice fishing at Oeschinensee ?

Yes, ice fishing is normally possible from January 1st. Check our website before you arrive to find out whether the lake is open for ice fishing. An individual assessment of the situation must always be carried out on site (consult the SLF avalanche bulletin, check ice thickness, etc.). Entering Lake Oeschinen is at your own risk; please also observe the info screens, information boards and barriers.

Is there a beginners' park for skiers or snowboarders?

Yes, after a short ride on the Cable car you will reach the mountain station. Right next to it is the Oeschiland beginners' park, for young and old snow bunnies and ideal for families with children. With a large and a small magic carpet, children's lift, 2 fun carousels and various play figures as well as a sledge run.

What outdoor guidelines apply to winter or ice swimming?

Be careful when ice bathing in water temperatures around freezing point, do not underestimate the cold! Ice holes must be at least 50 m away from the tracked "Ice Walk". In addition, the SOS patroller must be informed of every ice hole (0041 79 481 01 12). No entry or stay in the restricted zones (see signaling, fencing, yellow buoys). The frozen lake may only be entered when it has been officially cleared, and only from 09:00-16:00. The area must be left before dark; the last cable car ride from the mountain station must be observed.

Can I buy the ski day pass online?

Ski day passes are easy and convenient to purchase at the ticket machines at the valley station or at the ticket office at the information center. Further information and tickets are available directly from our ticket shop.

Is my AlpsPass, MagicPass valid?

No, the AlpsPass or MagicPass are not valid at Oeschinensee . You have the option of purchasing a season ticket for the winter season (CHF 100.- for adults, CHF 50.- for children). This offer is only available at the ticket office at the valley station.

Is my Adelboden-Lenk ski pass valid?

No. The Kandersteg ski region is no longer a partner of the IG Skiregion Adelboden-Lenk (IGSAL). It is possible to buy a season connection ticket Adelboden-Lenk for the Oeschinensee: children CHF 23.- adults CHF 46.- exclusively at the ticket office at the valley station. Incl. Sunnbühl: CHF 80.-/40.-.

Is the Cable car included in the ski pass?

Yes, the cable car ride from the valley station in Kandersteg to the mountain station is included in the ski pass.

Is my Adelboden–Lenk points card valid?

No, the Adelboden-Lenk points cardOeschinensee be redeemed on theOeschinensee Cable car . If you still have points left on your card, these must be redeemed in the Adelboden–Lenk ski area. Is it possible to change/cancel an online booking?

Can a ticket be canceled or refunded?

Cancellation or refund of tickets is generally excluded. In exceptional cases, a voucher can be issued for a later visitCable caroeschinensee. A processing fee of CHF 10 per booking may apply. A payout is excluded. Note: A rebooking to another time slot within the current season is possible up to three times free of charge.

Can a ticket with a boarding pass be changed to an earlier date?

Rebooking to an earlier date is not possible online. In exceptional cases, please contact the helpdesk oeschinensee Cable car . Ticket exchanges are only possible on-site at the Info Center.

How do I make a group reservation?

Group travel is limited and requires a reservation. If you arrive by train, we recommend booking via the SBB Contactcenter on 0041 848 44 66 88, where you can pay by invoice, receive advice and make adjustments. To purchase tickets on site, you must register in advance by e-mailing Cable caroeschinensee (no option to pay by invoice). Smaller groups can purchase individual tickets at the regular rate in the ticket store. Groups arriving spontaneously can often no longer be transported due to capacity restrictions. There are no contractual agreements or cooperations with third-party providers. Groups visiting the restaurants in the area will receive additional information in advance.

How can a voucher be redeemed?

Select the desired product online in the ticket shop and add it to your shopping cart. When paying, select "Add voucher" from the payment methods and enter your voucher code.

What advantages does the guest card offer?

Guests with a guest card from Kandersteg, Adelboden, Frutigen, Kandergrund, and Reichenbach receive a 10% discount on the gondola ride. No time slot reservation is required for you. Enter your guest card number here to receive discounts on mountain railway tickets in the ticket shop. The guest card is also accepted at the ticket machines on site (scan the QR code).

Are savings, tandem, community or Friends day passes valid?

No, the SBB day passes are not valid for the Cable car Oeschinensee. Discounts are available with a valid GA travelcard, Half-Fare travelcard, Swiss Travel Pass or a guest card from Kandersteg, Kandergrund, Frutigen, Adelboden and Reichenbach.

What transportation requirements apply to bicycles, SUPs, sports equipment, scooters and children's bikes?

No bicycles, mountain bikes, children's bikes, scooters, SUPs (stand-up paddles) or other potentially dangerous sports equipment are transported.

Can a ticket also be purchased on site?

We recommend purchasing your ticket in advance from the ticket shop. Only a limited number of remaining tickets are available from the ticket machines on site. Please note: Mountain trips can only be booked on site if there are still places available for the desired time slot. If the time slot is already fully booked, transportation is unfortunately not possible. Further information can be found directly in the ticket shop.

Do dogs travel free of charge on the Cable car?

No, the day ticket costs CHF 8.00. The SBB dog pass is accepted on the Cable car Oeschinensee .

What means of payment can I use?

You can pay at the ticket machines and at the ticket office with all major credit and debit cards as well as with Twint. Cash and REKA checks are also accepted. Payment with REKA checks is only possible at the ticket counter. Further information and tickets can be found directly in our ticket store.

Is the Bernese Oberland Pass accepted?

No, the Berner Oberland Pass will no longer be accepted from January 2026, and there will be no discount on the gondola ride.

Fares for public transport

Are the SBB Half-Fare travelcard, GA travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass valid?

Yes, with an SBB Half-Fare Card/GA and the Swiss Travel Pass you benefit from a 50% discount on the gondola ride. Please note that this discount does not apply to ski day tickets. If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend that you book a time slot for the ascent in advance in the ticket store. This will secure a fixed time slot for your ascent and avoid long waiting times. The SBB Saver Day Pass does not include cable car rides or discounts on tickets. Reduced fares are only available for holders of a Half-Fare Card, GA Travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass.

What should I bear in mind when traveling by public transport?

If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend purchasing a time slot reservation (boarding pass) for the ascent in the ticket store. Further information can be found in the SBB app and in the timetable.

Is a reservation with a public transport ticket necessary for the ascent ?

Yes, in the summer season it is necessary to reserve a time slot (so-called boarding pass) for the ascent in addition to the public transport ticket. You avoid waiting times and secure your ascent, also with the SBB app. Without a reservation, there may be waiting times and in exceptional cases transportation may not be possible. Public transport ticket: Purchase directly via the public transport channel, e.g. SBB app. Reserve a time slot here.

Do children travel free of charge, is the SBB Junior Card/Swiss Family Card valid?

Yes, children under the age of 6 travel free on the Cable car. Also children with an SBB Junior Card or a Swiss Family Card. Please exchange these for a corresponding Cable car at the Infocenter at the valley station - a time slot reservation is not necessary, children with a Junior Card/Swiss Family Card have access to the same time slot as the accompanying person.

Arrival and parking

How do I travel by train (public transport)?

You can reach Kandersteg by train from Spiez and Brig. From Adelboden and Frutigen there is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg. The walk from the station takes approx. 10-15 minutes. From June to October, a local bus runs from the station to the valley station for every train arrival/departure.

Where can I park, and is it possible to reserve a parking space? Are there parking spaces available, and can I reserve one?

Unfortunately, parking spaces cannot be reserved at the moment. Parking spaces in Kandersteg are limited at weekends and in summer. From around 12:00, there may be no more parking spaces available - we recommend arriving early. Parking spaces are available at the valley station from 06h00 until the evening. Hikers who are on their way to Oeschinensee should use the hiking parking lots in the village (lower hiking parking rates). No entry is possible at night. Entry is limited to max. 5m length, 2m height. Paid parking spaces and parking spaces for larger vehicles are located in the village and at the Schützenhaus.

Can Oeschinensee be reached by car?

The private road to Oeschinensee is closed to all motorized traffic and bicycles. Oeschinensee cannot be reached by car, e-bike, mountain bike or other vehicles.

How do I get from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen?

Oeschinensee can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes and the path is also easily accessible with baby carriages. In the summer season, a chargeable electric cab runs from the mountain station to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant near the lakeshore and back every half hour or when full. Guests with reduced mobility have priority in the electric cab.

Are there charging stations for electric cars?

Eight 11kW electric charging stations are available in our "P2" parking lot at the valley station. Entry is also possible when the parking lot is occupied - simply press the button on the entry column. Charging cables can be borrowed from the ticket office.

Where can campers, motorhomes etc. park?

There are no parking spaces for campers at the Cable car valley station, as the entrance height is limited to a maximum of 2 meters. Further parking spaces are available at various locations in the village. Parking spaces are available at the Nordic Arena and at the Bären (near Sunnbüel). Parking spaces without height restrictions are located at the Schützenhaus or at the town hall.

What are the outdoor guidelines for cycling?

Cycling of any kind is prohibited in the Oeschinensee area. Out of consideration for our guests, nature and for safety reasons, Oeschinensee can only be visited on foot. There is a judicial ban on cycling (mountain biking, e-biking, etc.). In addition, many forest trails lead through ecologically sensitive areas, i.e. rare and shy wild animals use these areas as retreats and quiet zones.

Where can coaches park?

There are no parking spaces for coaches at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. These can be found at various locations in the village. At the valley station, only a short stop for loading and unloading is permitted at the bus stop.
