In summer, the Chalet Arva offers an unforgettable overnight experience at Oeschinensee. If you hike a little further, you will reach three SAC huts in the region around the Oeschinensee , which serve and accommodate their guests. There are numerous hotels and vacation apartments in Kandersteg. If you are traveling with a tent, you will find the Rendez-Vous campsite right next to the valley station of the Cable car Kandersteg Oeschinensee . Camping, bivouacs, tents etc. are not permitted in the Oeschinensee area.

Chalet Arva

Welcome, here in the midst of breathtaking nature above Kandersteg at Oeschinensee, where our great-great-grandparents once grazed cows in summer.

Chalet Arva has six individually designed double rooms with a bathroom and lake view. Two of the rooms have their own balcony. Here you can rest without a thousand options, wrapped in linen and feeling warm wood under your feet.

The garden with edible flowers, wild herbs and sun loungers is exclusively available to our guests.

The campsite is laid out in terraces on a slope. In summer you stay right next to the hiking trails, in winter right next to the cross-country ski trails.

Arrival and parking

Where can I park? Is it possible to reserve a parking space?

Are there enough parking spaces, and can I reserve a parking spot?

Parking in Kandersteg is limited, especially on weekends and during the summer season. Starting around 11:00 a.m., parking spaces may no longer be available. We therefore recommend arriving early.

Parking lots P1–P3 at the lower station of Cable car Oeschinensee Cable car Oeschinensee Oeschistrasse 50, 3718 Kandersteg) are available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Hikers heading to Oeschinensee should Oeschinensee the hiking parking lots in the village, which offer lower parking rates for hikers.

Reserving a PREMIUM Parking Space: A parking space reservation is only possible in conjunction with at least one gondola ticket that includes a time slot for the ascent 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The reserved PREMIUM parking space costs CHF 10. You must enter the parking lot by 9:30 a.m. at the latest. The reservation is valid until 8:00 p.m.

Reservations can be made through the online ticket shop. Tickets for the current day are available online until 6:00 a.m. Additional gondola tickets for extra passengers, children, or dogs can be added in the online ticket shop under the “Tickets” tab.

Are you traveling with a rental car, or don't know your license plate number yet when making your reservation?
Just leave the license plate field blank. When you arrive, scan the QR code at the parking meter. Your actual license plate will be automatically recognized and linked to your reservation.

Important restrictions:

– The reservation applies exclusively to parking lots P1–P3 at the valley station. Other parking lots in the municipality of Kandersteg are not included.

– P1–P3 are reserved exclusively for cars up to 5 meters in length and 2 meters in height. Parking spaces cannot be reserved for campers, RVs, or larger vehicles. Paid parking spaces are available in the village and at the Schützenhaus.

– For vehicles taller than 2 meters, a detour fee will be automatically charged if the height restriction is violated. No vehicles are permitted to enter at night.

Book a PREMIUM parking space

Can I book Premium Parking after the fact?

No. **Premium Parking cannot be booked retroactively after purchasing a ticket.** If you **arrive before 9:30 a.m.**, you’ll usually find a parking spot right at the Cable car valley station. With a valid Cable car ticket, you’ll enjoy **reduced parking rates** in the regular parking lots. For a stay of about **4 hours**, the parking costs are roughly the same as for Premium Parking.

Can you reach the shore of Lake Oeschinen by car?

No. The private road leading to the shore of Oeschinensee Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland is closed to all motorized traffic and bicycles. Oeschinensee reached by car, e-bike, mountain bike, or any other vehicle. Instead, take theOeschinensee Cable car Oeschinensee hike to the lake shore in about 90 minutes.

How do you get from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen?

Oeschinensee Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland is about a 30-minute walk away, and the path is easily accessible even with a stroller. During the summer season,Oeschinensee electric taxi operates from the top station of Cable car Oeschinensee Cable car every half hour, or more frequently if needed when capacity is full, to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant Oeschinensee the lake shore and back. Guests with limited mobility have priority on the electric taxi.

How do I get to theOeschinensee Cable car by train (public transportation)?

You can easily reach Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland by train from Spiez and Brig. From Adelboden and Frutigen, a bus (AFA) runs to Kandersteg. The walk from the train station to the valley station of Cable car Oeschinensee Cable car Oeschinensee about 10–15 minutes. From June to October, a local bus also runs between the train station and the valley station for every train arrival and departure.

Are there charging stations for electric cars at theOeschinensee Cable car ?

There are eight 11-kW electric vehicle charging stations available in the “P2” parking lot at the lower station of Cable car Oeschinensee Cable car Oeschinensee Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. You can enter the parking lot even when it is full—simply press the button on the entry pillar.

What outdoor guidelines apply to cycling in the Oeschinensee area?

Cycling of any kind is prohibited in the Oeschinensee area Oeschinensee Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. Out of consideration for our guests, the natural environment, and for safety reasons, the Oeschinensee can Oeschinensee be visited on foot. There is a court-ordered ban on cycling (mountain biking, e-biking, etc.). For groups of 10 or more, reservations are required with Cable car Oeschinensee cable car .

The easiest way to make a reservation is directly through the Oeschinensee Sunnbüel Group Reservation Service. Groups traveling by public transportation to the Oeschinensee Sunnbüel mountain stations can alternatively book their entire trip through a staffed public transportation ticket office or the SBB Contact Center.

Option A – Online Group Reservation

Option A is strongly recommended and is the best way to book a group. Please submit your request as early as possible. Reservations Oeschinensee for groups at Oeschinensee ; furthermore, the number of available trips per day for individual guests and groups is limited. Therefore, transportation can only be guaranteed with a confirmed reservation.

How large can a group be?

The maximum group size is 80 people. Larger groups must make a prior inquiry by emailing Cable caroeschinensee.

How is payment made?

The total amount is paid on site in cash or by credit card. No invoices are sent.

What should I keep in mind upon arrival?

The group leader should have the booking confirmation available—either digitally or as a printout—and check in with the staff.

Oeschinensee: Please proceed with your entire group to the marked group meeting point in the blue zone behind the wooden chalet. Tickets will be distributed there.

What happens if you don't make a reservation in advance?

What are the transportation guidelines for bicycles, stand-up paddleboards, scooters, etc.?

TheOeschinensee Cable car Oeschinensee Bernese Oberland does not transport bicycles, mountain bikes, children’s bikes, scooters, SUPs (stand-up paddleboards), or other sports equipment from the valley station in Kandersteg to the mountain station.

Is the Berner Oberland PassOeschinensee at theOeschinensee Cable car ?

No, starting in January 2026, the Berner Oberland Pass will no longer be accepted at theOeschinensee Cable car Oeschinensee Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland, and there will be no discount on the gondola ride.

What are the benefits of the guest card for the gondola ride?

Guests with a guest card from Kandersteg, Adelboden, Frutigen, Kandergrund, or Reichenbach in the Bernese Oberland receive a 10% discount on the ride on the Cable car Kandersteg–Oeschinensee. Your benefit: No time slot reservation is required for guest card tickets. You can go directly to Cable car . Please be sure to purchase your ticket online before your arrival and enter your guest card number in the ticket shop. Guests with a Half-Fare Card, GA, or Swiss Travel Pass travel at a lower rate with these passes than with the guest card discount. These discounts cannot be combined with the 10% discount. No time slot reservation is required for these tickets either. You can purchase them at the on-site ticket machine. Since guest cards must be scanned individually, this may result in additional wait times, especially on busy days. Our recommendation: Purchase your ticket online in advance. This way, you’ll benefit from the best available discount and can go directly to the Cable car upon arrival.

Is Cable car reservation with a public transportation ticket required for the ascent Cable car ?

Are you traveling to Oeschinensee with a valid public transportation ticket? The public transportation ticket entitles you to the train ride, but does not include a time slot reservation for the ascent.

From June 20 to September 20, 2026, ascent are required for the ascent .

In addition to your valid public transportation ticket, please reserve a time slot for the ascent. Without a valid time slot reservation, you will not be able to board during this time period.

Outside of this time frame, we strongly recommend reserving a time slot, especially on weekends and busy days.

How Access Works

1. Please present your valid time slot reservation when you first enter.

2. Next, show your valid public transit ticket, for example, in the SBB Mobile app.

Important Information

A time slot reservation alone is not a valid train ticket. You will also need a valid public transportation ticket to travel.

A parking discount is available only in conjunction with a valid time slot reservation.

If you are not required to make a reservation, you may experience longer wait times without a prior time slot reservation, particularly on weekends and busy days.
