How do I travel by public transport?

You can reach Kandersteg by train from Spiez and Brig. From Adelboden and Frutigen there is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg. The walk from the station takes about 10-15 minutes. A local bus runs from the station to the valley station for every train arrival/departure from June to October.

Where can I park my car?

The number of parking spaces in Kandersteg is limited at weekends and during the summer season. We recommend that you arrive by public transport. Paid parking spaces are available at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. There are further paid parking spaces in the village. Please follow the parking guidance system and the instructions of the local sales service.

Is my SBB Half-Fare Card/GA valid for the Cable car ?

With an SBB Half-Fare Card/General Abonnement or a Swiss Travel Pass, you can travel on the Cable car at half price. Not valid for ski day tickets. Buy your ticket directly in our ticket store.

How do I get from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen?

Oeschinensee can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes. In summer, a chargeable shuttle bus runs every half hour from the mountain station to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore, and back. Guests with limited mobility have priority on the shuttle bus over all other guests.

What outdoor guidelines apply to drone flying?

Flying drones and model aircraft is prohibited around Oeschinensee . A judicial ban applies, overriding the national (FOCA) and cantonal area flight zones. This protects nature and wildlife and does not disturb other guests. As a drone pilot, you are obliged to find out about the applicable area restrictions before every drone flight. Some drone manufacturers have created their own geofencings. The areas shown there are specified solely by the manufacturer and do not necessarily correspond to the restrictions at Oeschinensee .

How does ticketing work for the Cable car Oeschinensee?

To make your journey with the Cable car as pleasant as possible, we recommend buying your ticket online in advance in the ticket store. With the Boarding Pass, which is included when you buy tickets via our webshop, you also secure a preferred time slot for the ascent so that you can start your ascent at the desired time without having to wait long. Further information and tickets can be found directly in our ticket store.

How do I make a group reservation?

The best way for groups to book is via the SBB Contact Center on 0848 44 66 88, where payment by invoice, personal advice and flexible adjustments are possible. Alternatively, tickets can also be booked online in the Ticket Shop. To purchase tickets at the ticket office on site, advance registration by e-mail to Cable caroeschinensee is required. It is not necessary to book a time slot - the ascent with the Cable car can be started flexibly between 08:30-16:00. Please note that we do not enter into any contractual agreements or cooperations with third-party providers - only the above-mentioned official channels are available for group bookings.

What should I bear in mind when traveling to Oeschinensee by public transport?

If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend reserving a time slot for the ascent. You can find information on this in the SBB app and in the timetable. Reservations are strongly recommended, as waiting times may occur without a booked time slot (boarding pass).

Is it possible to change or cancel an online booking in the ticket store?

Yes, from the date of validity you can rebook your ticket free of charge and online via the ticket store to a later date, provided seats are available. Can gondola lift tickets be purchased on site?

We generally recommend that you buy your ticket conveniently online in our ticket store. Alternatively, you can also purchase tickets from the ticket machines at the valley and mountain stations. Please note that it is only possible to purchase ascent tickets if there is still availability for the desired time slot. Is it necessary to make a reservation for the Bernese Oberland Pass?

Yes - guests with the Bernese Oberland Pass are strongly recommended to reserve a time slot for the ascent under this link/. This way you can secure your preferred time slot for the ascent and can start the ascent at the desired time without long waiting times. The Oeschinensee gondola ride is already included in the Bernese Oberland Pass, so you only need to reserve a time slot for the ascent.

What booking options are available for the descent?

Is my SBB Half-Fare Card/GA valid for the Cable car ?

With an SBB Half-Fare Card/General Abonnement or a Swiss Travel Pass, you can travel on the Cable car at half price. Not valid for ski day tickets. Buy your ticket directly in our ticket store.

Is the Bernese Oberland Pass accepted?

The Cable car ride is already included in your Bernese Oberland Pass. Guests are strongly recommended to reserve a time slot for the ascent under this link/. This will secure you a preferred time slot for the ascent so that you can start your ascent at the desired time, relaxed and without long waiting times.

Do children travel free of charge on Cable car?

Yes, children under the age of 6 travel free on the Cable car. The SBB Junior Card is valid, please show it at the ticket office or at the entrance to the Cable car .

What means of payment can I use?

You can pay at the ticket machines and at the ticket office with all major credit and debit cards as well as with Twint. Cash and REKA checks are also accepted. Payment with REKA checks is only possible at the ticket counter. Further information and tickets can be found directly in our ticket store.

Do dogs travel free of charge on the Cable car?

Yes, the day ticket costs CHF 8. The SBB dog pass is accepted on the Cable car Oeschinensee .

Arrival and parking

The private road to the Oeschinensee is closed to cars and bicycles (e-bikes, mountain bikes, etc.).

What are the outdoor guidelines for cycling?

Cycling of any kind is prohibited in the Oeschinensee area. Out of consideration for our guests, nature and for safety reasons, Oeschinensee can only be visited on foot. There is a judicial ban on cycling (mountain biking, e-biking, etc.). In addition, many forest trails lead through ecologically sensitive areas, i.e. rare and shy wild animals use these areas as retreats and quiet zones.

Are there charging stations for electric cars?

Eight 11kW electric charging stations are available in our "P2" parking lot at the valley station. Entry is also possible when the parking lot is occupied - simply press the button on the entry column. Charging cables can be borrowed from the ticket office.

Where can coaches park?

There are no parking spaces for coaches at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. These can be found at various locations in the village. At the valley station, only a short stop for loading and unloading is permitted at the bus stop.

Summer offers

When can I go tobogganing?

The mountain coaster is only open in summer. Tickets can only be purchased directly on site at the ticket machine (cash, Twint, credit and debit card). For safety reasons, the mountain coaster aster is closed when it rains, see operating status.

Where do I buy the fishing license?

You can buy your fishing license either in the café-bar on the shore of Lake Oeschinen or in the Tourist Center in Kandersteg.

Is there an age limit for tobogganing?

Children aged 3 and over may only use the mountain coaster with an accompanying person aged 8 and over. Children aged 8 and over may use the mountain coaster alone if they have been familiarized with the ride and have been given responsibility by the person responsible for supervision. Filming with cell phones and devices of any kind or taking selfies is not permitted during the ride.

What gastronomic offerings are there in the Oeschinensee area?

In the Oeschinensee area there are various gastronomic options available to you. These include the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, the Bergstübli at the mountain station and the Chalet Arva. Is there accommodation available at Oeschinensee ?

During the summer season you can only stay overnight in Chalet Arva. A reservation is mandatory. Camping is only permitted on the campsite at the valley station. Other overnight accommodation is available in Kandersteg and in the Kandertal valley.

Is it possible to buy snacks or something to satisfy a small appetite?

If you are hungry or have a small appetite, you will find a selection of hot and cold snacks as well as a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in the kiosk at the mountain station and in the café-bar by the lake.

Is there a picnic area?

Yes, there is a heated picnic room at the mountain station (around the house, on the 1st floor). Opening hours when the cable car is in operation 09:00-16:00. It is not possible to make a reservation.

What catering options are available for groups in the Oeschinensee area?

Which outdoor guidelines should be observed when providing first aid?

In an emergency, call the rescue service immediately (telephone number 1414). In winter, the SOS patrolman (+41 79 481 01 12) should also be informed. There is an SOS room in the mountain station. Defibrillators are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore.

Where are the toilets located in the Oeschinensee area?

The public toilets are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the mountain restaurant on the lake shore. There are more toilets in Oeschinensee. Going to the toilet in nature should be avoided. However, if you do need to use the "natural toilet", please do not leave any paper, tissues or wet wipes behind.

Are lockers available at the top or bottom station?

Yes, there are lockers and ski racks at the top and bottom stations. Payment can be made digitally by debit card, Visa/Mastercard, Twint or cash. Weekly and season passes for lockers and ski racks are available at the ticket office.

Is the Cable car to Oeschinensee wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the mountain station can be reached with the wheelchair-accessible Cable car . During the summer season, a chargeable shuttle bus runs every half hour from there to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore, and back. One wheelchair can be transported per trip.

Wild camping and overnight stays in the great outdoors are prohibited. Camping, bivouacking and spending the night in hammocks or similar is prohibited by law. Oeschinensee patrol the area. The wild animals must not be disturbed at night. There is a campsite at the valley station in Kandersteg. The night-time quiet rule applies (from 22:00).

What outdoor guidelines must be observed in wildlife rest areas and protected areas?

Do not enter wildlife rest areas, plant protection areas and restricted zones. Signposts mark the protected areas where special rules apply. Never leave the marked paths and tracks and always follow the signs on site. Plants must not be dug up, picked or trampled.

Behave calmly, do not startle the animals and do not frighten them. Always close the gate and follow the footpath. In general, cows are curious and harmless. Whether large or small, cows and cattle always classify your dog as a predator. Keep your dog on a short lead and keep him under control.

What outdoor guidelines apply to winter hikes and the "Ice Walk"?

Stay safely on the marked and open winter hiking trails and avoid shortcuts. This also applies to snowshoe hikers. Check the level of difficulty and your equipment carefully for each hike. Fishing from the shore and from a rowing boat as well as ice fishing are permitted with a cantonal fishing license in compliance with the regulations on fishing of the Canton of Bern. Daily permits can be purchased at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant or online. Rowing boats (also with fish boxes) can be hired directly on the lake. What outdoor guidelines apply when dealing with social media?

Only post activities that are permitted. Publishing prohibited activities can have legal consequences. Remember that content on the internet remains visible for a long time. Only publish photos, videos or quotes on websites and social media from people who have expressly given you their consent to do so (personal rights). Commercial photo shoots are not permitted at Oeschinensee .

What outdoor guidelines apply to rockfall?

After rainfall and strong temperature fluctuations (day/night), the risk of rockfall, wet avalanches, debris flow and rockfall increases. Alarm signs are fresh impact marks, rock deposits and outcrops. The more exposed the path, the higher the risk. In such places, it is important to move on quickly. Hiking is always at your own risk. Many rockfalls are often caused by other hikers, mountaineers or animals. Avoid throwing any stones, as you do not know who is below you in the terrain.

What are the outdoor guidelines for paragliding in the Lake Oeschinen area?

In Oeschinensee, there is an official launch site at the Cable car mountain station where paragliders can take off. There is no official landing area in Oeschinensee. Avoid any disturbance and danger to people and animals and only practice your sport in the permitted flight zones.

What outdoor guidelines apply to parties and events?

Parties and events with loud music, alcohol and noise etc. are out of place and not welcome. On the other hand, we are happy to welcome groups who respect the animals and plants and enjoy nature with care. Please observe the outdoor guidelines, be careful and protect nature.

What outdoor guidelines apply when dealing with snakes?

There are numerous snakes in the Oeschinensee area, including poisonous ones. Stay on the paths and keep your dog on a short lead. Remain calm at all times and move away whenever possible if you see a snake. In the event of a bite, if you are not sure which snake it is, call the rescue service immediately on 1414 and the ranger on +41 79 603 28 78. Take a photo of the snake if possible and observe the bite site closely.

What are the outdoor guidelines for snowshoeing?

When snowshoeing, we are in the middle of the habitat of numerous wild animals. These must not be disturbed. It is therefore important to stay on the marked trails. Always wear warm winter hiking boots and clothing.

Which outdoor guidelines apply to watercraft and sports equipment on Oeschinensee?

Please note that the Oeschinensee Cable car does not transport water sports equipment (SUPs, folding boats, foil boards, etc.). Rowing boats can be hired on the lake.

What are the outdoor guidelines for sledging?

Our toboggan run is marked and signposted. The majority of you share it with pedestrians, skiers and snowboarders. Keep your distance from other people and stay on the marked and open sledge run. You can hire a sledge at the mountain station. Sledging on the ski slope is prohibited. Sledging is permitted in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

What does the UNESCO World Heritage Charter say?

In the Charter of Konkordiaplatz with extension municipalities, the municipalities located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site undertake to comply with all regulations that apply in the protected areas on municipal land. Our Outdoor Guidelines are based on these and other applicable regulations. Observe the Outdoor Guidelines and their extensions for the protection of animals and nature.

What outdoor guidelines apply to plants and collecting dry wood?

The entire Oeschinensee consists of individual protection zones such as the plant conservation area, BLN, UNESCO World Heritage Site, dry meadows and wildlife rest areas. Many plant species are very rare and strictly protected. Stay on the paths; the following generally applies: picking, digging up, trampling and cutting down are undesirable or prohibited.

Which outdoor guidelines apply to tent roofs, awnings and sun protection?

Tent roofs and awnings are not permitted. They irritate large and small game and birds and have a lasting effect on animal behavior. However, we strongly advise our guests to use sun protection. Hats, sun creams and sunglasses, as well as staying in the shade and covering your skin are good measures to take.

What are the outdoor guidelines for skiing and snowboarding?

The Oeschinensee ski area follows the international FIS rules in its code of conduct on the slopes. For your own protection and the protection of wild animals, please stay on the marked ski slopes and follow the signs. The piste and rescue service only monitors and controls the marked and open pistes and winter hiking trails.

Winter offers

Is it possible to enter Oeschinensee in winter?

If the ice is thick enough and there is enough snow on Oeschinensee , the "Ice Walk" is prepared on the lake. This is open to all pedestrians. Good, warm winter hiking boots are required. On the "Ice Walk", it is important to observe the clearance for walking on the frozen lake and the avalanche bulletin on site.

Can you go winter hiking in the Oeschinensee area?

Yes, you can take a beautiful winter hike from the mountain station to the shores of Lake Oeschinen. We recommend trail D via the Läger to the viewpoint and then the direct trail C from the lake back to the mountain station. When open, the Ice Walk on the frozen lake offers an additional special winter hiking opportunity. Good, warm winter hiking boots or snowshoes are required.

Is it possible to snowshoe in the Oeschinensee area?

Yes, a snowshoe trail leads from the valley station directly to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. Duration of the hike approx. 1.5 hours. Depending on the weather conditions, the snowshoe trail is only suitable for experienced snowshoers. Alternatively, you have the option of snowshoeing from the mountain station on the official winter hiking trails.

Can I hire sledges somewhere?

Yes, sledges can be hired at the Oeschinensee mountain station for CHF 20 per day. There is a short toboggan run from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. The way back to the mountain station is on foot. Duration: approx. 30 minutes. Sledging is also permitted in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

Can you go ice fishing at Oeschinensee ?

Yes, ice fishing is normally possible from January 1st. Check our website before you arrive to find out whether the lake is open for ice fishing. An individual assessment of the situation must always be carried out on site (consult the SLF avalanche bulletin, check ice thickness, etc.). Entering Lake Oeschinen is at your own risk; please also observe the info screens, information boards and barriers.

Is there a toboggan run that leads down into the valley?

The toboggan run into the valley is permanently closed due to the risk of rockfall. This is an official closure. There is a leisurely toboggan run from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. The way back to the mountain station is on foot. Duration: approx. 30-40 minutes. Good, warm winter hiking boots are required. Sledging is also possible in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

How is the piste and rescue service provided?

The daily monitoring of the marked and open pistes and paths ends with the final check at 17:00. Outside the operating hours, all pistes and winter hiking trails are closed and are not secured against dangers such as avalanche blasting, snow groomers, etc. In the event of incidents during operating hours, please contact the SOS patroller +41 481 01 12. Outside operating hours (REGA 1414).

Is it possible to skate on Oeschinensee ?

No, in order for Oeschinensee to be opened for ice skating, the lake must freeze "black". This happens extremely rarely, if this is the case and skating is possible, we will inform you on our website. Entering Lake Oeschinen is at your own risk and you must also observe the information screens, information boards and barriers. There is no infrastructure on site, such as changing rooms or similar, and no skate rental. If the ice is covered with snow, skating is not possible - which is usually the case in winter.

What outdoor guidelines apply to winter or ice swimming?

Be careful when ice bathing in water temperatures around freezing point, do not underestimate the cold! Ice holes must be at least 50 m away from the tracked "Ice Walk". In addition, the SOS patroller must be informed of every ice hole (+41 79 481 01 12). Do not enter or stay in the restricted zones (see signaling, fencing, yellow buoys). The frozen lake may only be entered when it has been officially cleared, and only from 09:00-16:00. The area must be left before dark, note the last cable car ride from the mountain station.

Is there a beginners' park for skiers or snowboarders?

Yes, after a short ride on the Cable car you will reach the mountain station. Right next to it is the Oeschiland beginners' park, for young and old snow bunnies and ideal for families with children. With a large and a small conveyor belt, children's lift, 2 fun carousels and various play figures as well as a sledge run.

Is there a toboggan run?

There is a short and leisurely toboggan run from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. Follow the markings for toboggan runs in the color blue-purple. The way back to the mountain station is on foot. Duration approx. 30-40 minutes. Good, warm winter hiking boots are required. Sledging is also possible in the Oeschiland beginners' park. There is no toboggan run into the valley.

Can I rent/buy sports equipment somewhere?

Is there a snow park in the Oeschinensee ski area?

Yes, there is a small snow park. The "Oeschipark" offers various fun elements and jibs for beginners. The snow park is located in the immediate vicinity of the Bire lift. Whether you're just starting out or want to refine your tricks, the Oeschipark is the perfect place!

What winter activities are there in the Oeschinensee area?

In winter, a wide range of leisure activities await you at Oeschinensee . Is it possible to ski in the Oeschinensee area?

Yes, after a short ride on the Cable car you will reach the mountain station. The Oeschinensee ski area has two T-bar lifts (Birelift, Wittenenlift) with blue and red pistes. The Oeschiland beginners' park is located right next to the mountain station. There is also a snow park at the "Bire" ski lift.

No, the Magicpass is not valid at Oeschinensee . You have the option of purchasing a season ticket for the winter season (CHF 80.- for adults, CHF 40.- for children). This offer is only available at the ticket office at the valley station.

Is my Adelboden-Lenk ski pass valid?

No. The Kandersteg ski region is no longer a partner of the IG Skiregion Adelboden-Lenk (IGSAL). It is possible to buy a season connection ticket Adelboden-Lenk for the Oeschinensee: children CHF 23.- adults CHF 46.- exclusively at the ticket office at the valley station. Incl. Sunnbühl: CHF 80.-/40.-.

Is my Top4 ski pass valid?

No, the Top4 ski pass is not valid at Oeschinensee . You have the option of purchasing a season ticket for the winter season (CHF 80.- for adults, CHF 40.- for children). This offer is only available at the ticket office at the valley station.

Is my Adelboden-Lenk points card valid?

No, the Adelboden-Lenk points card cannot be redeemed on the Oeschinensee Cable car . If you still have remaining points on the card, these can be redeemed in the Adelboden-Lenk ski area. At the Oeschinensee mountain station, single and 10-person rides can be purchased at the ticket machine for the ski lift.

Is the Cable car included in the ski pass?

Yes, the cable car ride from the valley station in Kandersteg to the mountain station is included in the ski pass.

Can I buy the ski day pass online?

Ski day tickets are easy to purchase via our ticket store. Load the day pass onto a key card or your SwissPass. Alternatively, day ski passes can also be purchased easily and conveniently at our ticket machines at the valley station or at the ticket office.
