The area around the Oeschinensee invites young and old to enjoy an unforgettable stay. Whether winter hiking, snowshoeing, skiing or tobogganing - an impressive nature experience is guaranteed! In winter, there are two dining options available: the self-service restaurant Bergstübli, ideally located right by the mountain station and next to the Oeschiland beginners' paradise, and the mountain restaurant Oeschinensee on the picturesque lakeshore. Whether in the cozy warmth of the indoor area or on the sunny terrace - enjoyment is always included here!

Mountain restaurant Oeschinensee

Warmth, hospitality and a breathtaking view on the shores of Lake Oeschinen. The self-service restaurant at 1,500 m above sea level, which is now run by the fifth generation, looks back on a family tradition of over 130 years and has been owned by the Wandfluh family since it was built in 1892.

Indulge yourself and enjoy the lovingly prepared dishes. From delicious Swiss classics and specialties from the region to a touch of internationality.

Kiosk Bergstübli

Something for the "Gluscht". At the kiosk right next to the mountain station, you can take a short break at any time of year and admire the Blüemlisalp massif from the terrace.

A warm welcome above Lake Oeschinen, with spectacular views over the lake and of the Blüemlisalp massif. Here you will find the Sennhütte, where our great-great-grandparents once made cheese in summer.

Bärgbeizli Underbärgli

The Beizli is ideally located for a day visit or an overnight stay in a hut for mountain or alpine hikers. We look forward to welcoming you from May to October for breakfast, snack, lunch or afternoon snack.

Food and drinks, hot or cold, we always have something delicious in stock. ... or on a day hike for a snack. Linger in our garden, rest on a deckchair and treat yourself to a refreshing drink and a tasty snack. The perfect view of Oeschinensee is guaranteed from here!

Fondue-2-Go - a gourmet adventure in the great outdoors

If you've got the fondue bug, then there's nothing more special than enjoying a fondue in the natural surroundings of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Book online here now!

Our package is available at the Bergstübli restaurant, right next to the mountain station. The package includes everything you need to prepare a fondue, a fine bottle of wine, tea, bread, spices and a sledge. 

Where you enjoy the fondue is up to you, whether directly at the lake high above the mountain station or simply at the Oeschiland beginners' paradise. Simply stir and after approx. 30 minutes your fondue is ready - enjoyment guaranteed!

What you should know.

How do I travel by public transport?

You can reach Kandersteg by train from Spiez and Brig. From Adelboden and Frutigen there is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg. The walk from the station takes about 10-15 minutes. A local bus runs from the station to the valley station for every train arrival/departure from June to October.

Where can I park my car?

The number of parking spaces in Kandersteg is limited at weekends and during the summer season. We recommend that you arrive by public transport. Paid parking spaces are available at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. There are further paid parking spaces in the village. Please follow the parking guidance system and the instructions of the local sales service.

How do I get from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen?

Oeschinensee can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes. In summer, a chargeable shuttle bus runs every half hour from the mountain station to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore, and back. Guests with limited mobility have priority on the shuttle bus over all other guests.

What are the outdoor guidelines for camping and bivouacking?

Wild camping and overnight stays in the great outdoors are prohibited. Camping, bivouacking and spending the night in hammocks or similar is prohibited by law. Oeschinensee patrol the area. The wild animals must not be disturbed at night. There is a campsite at the valley station in Kandersteg. The night-time quiet rule applies (from 22:00).

What outdoor guidelines apply to drone flying?

Flying drones and model aircraft is prohibited around Oeschinensee . A judicial ban applies, overriding the national (FOCA) and cantonal area flight zones. This protects nature and wildlife and does not disturb other guests. As a drone pilot, you are obliged to find out about the applicable area restrictions before every drone flight. Some drone manufacturers have created their own geofencings. The areas shown there are specified solely by the manufacturer and do not necessarily correspond to the restrictions at Oeschinensee .

Do children travel free of charge on Cable car?

Yes, children under the age of 6 travel free on the Cable car. The SBB Junior Card is valid, please show it at the ticket office or at the entrance to the Cable car .

What means of payment can I use?

You can pay at the ticket machines and at the ticket office with all major credit and debit cards as well as with Twint. Cash and REKA checks are also accepted. Payment with REKA checks is only possible at the ticket counter. Further information and tickets can be found directly in our ticket store.

What outdoor guidelines apply to the use of toilets?

The public toilets are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the mountain restaurant on the lake shore. There are more toilets in Oeschinensee. Going to the toilet in nature should be avoided. However, if you do need to use the "natural toilet", please do not leave any paper, tissues or wet wipes behind.

Which outdoor guidelines should be observed when providing first aid?

In an emergency, call the rescue service immediately (telephone number 1414). In winter, the SOS patrolman (+41 79 481 01 12) should also be informed. There is an SOS room in the mountain station. Defibrillators are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore.

What outdoor guidelines apply to waste collection and separation?

Collect the waste and dispose of it in the waste stations. Waste separation stations are located at the mountain and valley stations, at the mountain coaster and along the main hiking trails.
