How do I travel by train (public transport)?

You can reach Kandersteg by train from Spiez and Brig. From Adelboden and Frutigen there is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg. The walk from the station takes approx. 10-15 minutes. From June to October, a local bus runs from the station to the valley station for every train arrival/departure.

Where can I park and can I reserve a parking space?

Unfortunately, parking spaces cannot be reserved at the moment. Parking spaces in Kandersteg are limited at weekends and in summer. From around 12:00, there may be no more parking spaces available - we recommend arriving early. Parking spaces are available at the valley station from 06h00 until the evening. Hikers who are on their way to Oeschinensee should use the hiking parking lots in the village (lower hiking parking rates). No entry is possible at night. Entry is limited to max. 5m length, 2m height. Paid parking spaces and parking spaces for larger vehicles are located in the village and at the Schützenhaus.

Are the SBB Half-Fare travelcard, GA travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass valid?

Yes, with an SBB Half-Fare Card/GA and the Swiss Travel Pass you benefit from a 50% discount on the gondola ride. Please note that this discount does not apply to ski day tickets. If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend that you book a time slot for the ascent in advance in the ticket store. This will secure a fixed time slot for your ascent and avoid long waiting times. The SBB Saver Day Pass does not include cable car rides or discounts on tickets. What outdoor guidelines apply to drone flying?

Flying drones and model aircraft is prohibited around Oeschinensee . A judicial ban applies, overriding the national (FOCA) and cantonal area flight zones. This protects nature and wildlife, and other guests are not disturbed. As a drone pilot, you are obliged to find out about the applicable area restrictions before every drone flight. Some drone manufacturers have created their own geofencings. The areas shown there are specified solely by the manufacturer and do not necessarily correspond to the restrictions at Oeschinensee .

What are the outdoor guidelines for making a fire/grilling?

Due to the risk of forest fires, fires may only be lit at official barbecue sites. Cutting down trees, branches etc. from the wild is prohibited. Firewood/"grill bags" can be purchased at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore, or the wood can be brought from home.

Ticket booking

What are the advantages of booking online?

You can buy your ticket online in the ticket store. A time slot reservation for your ascent is included with your ticket. A relaxed journey awaits you without long waiting times at the valley station. If your plans change, you can rebook your time slot free of charge. Further information and tickets can be found in the ticket store.

How does the ticket system work?

For a pleasant journey on the Cable car, it is best to buy your tickets in advance from the ticket store. With the time slot reservation included with your ticket purchase, you can secure a preferred time slot for the ascent and start your journey relaxed and without long waiting times. You can find more information directly in our ticket store.

How do I make a group reservation?

Group travel is limited and requires a reservation. If you arrive by train, we recommend booking via the SBB Contactcenter on 0041 848 44 66 88, where you can pay by invoice, receive advice and make adjustments. To purchase tickets on site, you must register in advance by e-mailing Cable caroeschinensee (no option to pay by invoice). Smaller groups can purchase individual tickets at the regular rate in the ticket store. Groups arriving spontaneously can often no longer be transported due to capacity restrictions. There are no contractual agreements or cooperations with third-party providers. Groups visiting the restaurants in the area will receive additional information in advance.

Is it possible to change/cancel an online booking?

Yes, from the date of validity you can rebook your ticket free of charge and online via the ticket store to a later date, provided seats are available. The link is included in the e-mail with your ticket, cancelations are not possible. Further information can be found directly in our Ticket Shop.

What booking options are available for the descent?

Book your ticket conveniently online - without a time slot for the descent. Or get a discounted connecting ticket at the mountain station. You can find more information and tickets directly in our ticket store.

Can a ticket with a boarding pass be changed to an earlier date?

Rebooking to an earlier date is not possible online. In exceptional cases, please contact the helpdesk oeschinensee Cable car . Ticket exchanges are only possible on-site at the Info Center.

Can a ticket be canceled or refunded?

Cancellation or refund of tickets is generally excluded. In exceptional cases, a voucher can be issued for a later visitCable caroeschinensee. A processing fee of CHF 10 per booking may apply. A payout is excluded. Note: A rebooking to another time slot within the current season is possible up to three times free of charge.

Is a combination ticket (Parking+CableCable car) available?

The offer is currently not available.

How can a voucher be redeemed?

Select the desired product in the ticket store and add it to the shopping cart. When paying, select "Add voucher" from the payment methods and enter your voucher code.

Timetable and fares

What advantages does the guest card offer?

Guests with a guest card from Kandersteg, Adelboden, Frutigen, Kandergrund and Reichenbach receive a 10% discount on the gondola ride. You do not need to reserve a timeslot. Enter your guest card number here to receive discounts on mountain railway tickets in the ticket store. The guest card is also accepted at the ticket machines on site (simply scan the QR code).

Can a ticket also be purchased on site?

We recommend buying your ticket in advance via our ticket store. Only a limited number of remaining tickets are available on site at the ticket machines. Please note: Mountain rides can only be booked on site if there are still free seats available for the desired time slot. If the time slot is already fully booked, transportation is unfortunately not possible. Further information can be found directly in the ticket store.

Are savings, tandem, community or Friends day passes valid?

No, the SBB day passes are not valid for the Cable car Oeschinensee. Discounts are available with a valid GA travelcard, Half-Fare travelcard, Swiss Travel Pass or a guest card from Kandersteg, Kandergrund, Frutigen, Adelboden and Reichenbach.

What transportation requirements apply to bicycles, SUPs, sports equipment, scooters and children's bikes?

No bicycles, mountain bikes, children's bikes, scooters, SUPs (stand-up paddles) or other potentially dangerous sports equipment are transported.

Do dogs travel free of charge on the Cable car?

No, the day ticket costs CHF 8.00. The SBB dog pass is accepted on the Cable car Oeschinensee .

What means of payment can I use?

You can pay at the ticket machines and at the ticket office with all major credit and debit cards as well as with Twint. Cash and REKA checks are also accepted. Payment with REKA checks is only possible at the ticket counter. Further information and tickets can be found directly in our ticket store.

Is the Bernese Oberland Pass accepted?

Yes, the BEO Pass is accepted until 31.12.2025 and the gondola ride is included. To avoid waiting times, we also recommend reserving a time slot for the ascent in the ticket store, with priority boarding at the desired time.

Yes, in the summer season it is necessary to reserve a time slot (so-called boarding pass) for the ascent in addition to the public transport ticket. You avoid waiting times and secure your ascent, also with the SBB app. Without a reservation, waiting times may occur and, in exceptional cases, transportation may not be possible. What should I bear in mind when traveling by public transport?

If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend purchasing a time slot reservation (boarding pass) for the ascent in the ticket store. Further information can be found in the SBB app and in the timetable.

Do children travel free of charge, is the SBB Junior Card/Swiss Family Card valid?

Yes, children under the age of 6 travel free on the Cable car. Also children with an SBB Junior Card or a Swiss Family Card. Please exchange these for a corresponding Cable car at the Infocenter at the valley station - a time slot reservation is not necessary, children with a Junior Card/Swiss Family Card have access to the same time slot as the accompanying person.

Is a reservation required for the Bernese Oberland Pass?

Guests with the Bernese Oberland Pass are recommended to book a time slot reservation for the ascent in the ticket store. This way you can secure your time slot for the ascent and can start the ascent at the desired time without having to wait.

Arrival and parking

Oeschinensee can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes and the path is also easily accessible with baby carriages. In the summer season, a chargeable electric cab runs from the mountain station to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant near the lakeshore and back every half hour or when full. Guests with reduced mobility have priority in the electric cab.

Can Oeschinensee be reached by car?

The private road to Oeschinensee is closed to all motorized traffic and bicycles. Oeschinensee cannot be reached by car, e-bike, mountain bike or other vehicles.

Where can campers, motorhomes etc. park?

There are no parking spaces for campers at the Cable car valley station, as the entrance height is limited to a maximum of 2 meters. Further parking spaces are available at various locations in the village. Parking spaces are available at the Nordic Arena and at the Bären (near Sunnbüel). Parking spaces without height restrictions are located at the Schützenhaus or at the town hall.

Are there charging stations for electric cars?

Eight 11kW electric charging stations are available in our "P2" parking lot at the valley station. Entry is also possible when the parking lot is occupied - simply press the button on the entry column. Charging cables can be borrowed from the ticket office.

What are the outdoor guidelines for cycling?

Cycling of any kind is prohibited in the Oeschinensee area. Out of consideration for our guests, nature and for safety reasons, Oeschinensee can only be visited on foot. There is a judicial ban on cycling (mountain biking, e-biking, etc.). In addition, many forest trails lead through ecologically sensitive areas, i.e. rare and shy wild animals use these areas as retreats and quiet zones.

Where can coaches park?

There are no parking spaces for coaches at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. These can be found at various locations in the village. At the valley station, only a short stop for loading and unloading is permitted at the bus stop.

Summer offers

How are rowing boats hired out?

Rowing boats can only be hired directly on the lakeshore. A limited number are equipped with fish boxes. Please enquire directly on site at the rowing boat sales stand. Waiting times are to be expected at weekends, in the high season and in fine weather. You can find out more on this page and on the boat rental page.

What are the gastronomic offerings?

In the Oeschinensee area, you can choose from a variety of dining options. These include the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant and the Chalet Arva (both near the lake) as well as the Bergstübli at the mountain station. When can I go tobogganing?

The mountain coaster is only open in summer. Tickets can only be purchased directly on site at the ticket machine (cash, Twint, credit and debit card). For safety reasons, the mountain coaster aster is closed when it rains, see operating status.

Is there an age limit for tobogganing?

Children aged 3 and over may only use the mountain coaster together with an accompanying person aged 8 and over. Children aged 8 and over may use the mountain coaster alone if they have been familiarized with the ride and have been given responsibility by the person responsible for supervision. Filming with cell phones and devices of any kind or taking selfies is not permitted during the ride.

Where do I buy the fishing license?

You can buy your fishing license either in the café-bar on the shore of Lake Oeschinen or in the Tourist Center in Kandersteg.

What are the gastronomic offerings?

In the Oeschinensee area, you can choose from a variety of dining options. Is there accommodation available at Oeschinensee ?

During the summer season you can only stay overnight in Chalet Arva . A reservation is mandatory. Three SAC huts in the Oeschinensee area offer further overnight accommodation. Camping is only permitted at Camping Rendez-Vous at the valley station or at the ski jump (open all year round). There are also various pitches in Kandersteg.

Where are the toilets located in the Oeschinensee area?

The public toilets are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the mountain restaurant near the lakeshore. There are more toilets in Oeschinensee. Going to the toilet in nature should be avoided. However, if you do need to use the "natural toilet", please do not leave any paper, tissues or wet wipes behind.

Are events such as weddings or similar permitted in the Oeschinensee area?

No, Oeschinensee is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is surrounded by various protected areas, including plant conservation areas, dry meadows and wildlife rest areas. Due to these special protective measures, all (commercial) events and drone flights are prohibited by law. Compliance with these rules is monitored by rangers.

Is the Cable car to Oeschinensee wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the Cable car is wheelchair-accessible and offers a barrier-free ride to the mountain station. From there, a chargeable electric cab runs every half hour from 10:45 am during the summer season to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant near the lakeshore and back again. One wheelchair can be taken per trip.

Are lockers available at the top or bottom station?

Yes, there are lockers and ski racks at the top and bottom stations. Payment can be made digitally by debit card, Visa/Mastercard, Twint or cash. Weekly and season passes for lockers and ski racks are available at the ticket office.

What applies to guests with limited mobility?

It is not permitted to enter wildlife rest areas, plant protection areas and restricted zones. Signposts mark the protected area zones where special rules apply. Never leave the marked paths and tracks and always follow the signs on site. Plants may not be dug up, picked or trampled.

Collect the waste and dispose of it in the waste stations. Waste separation stations are located at the mountain and valley stations, at the mountain coaster and along the main hiking trails.

What outdoor guidelines apply to the "Spitze Stei" exclusion zone?

A large part of the south-eastern shore of Oeschinensee has been declared a restricted area by the Canton of Bern due to the risk of falling rocks and rockslides. There is an absolute ban on access here! There is a danger to life! Please also draw the attention of others who wish to enter the area and/or call the ranger on 0041 79 603 28 78. How do I prepare properly for a hike?

Find out in advance about the current local conditions, in particular closures, hazards and weather conditions. Our outdoor guidelines, information boards and status displays will help you find your way around. Adjust your goals and leisure activities according to your fitness and equipment - you are partly in high mountains. Plan enough time for your hike, take sufficient provisions with you and check your equipment.

Which outdoor guidelines should be observed when providing first aid?

In an emergency, call the 1414 rescue service immediately. In winter, the SOS patrolman (0041 79 481 01 12) should also be informed. There is an SOS room at the mountain and valley stations. Defibrillators are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore.

What should I bear in mind when choosing hiking equipment?

Wear shoes suitable for the hike - preferably hiking boots - and take a rucksack and hiking poles with you. Wear appropriate clothing for the season and make sure you have sufficient sun protection (glasses, headgear, sun cream). Spare underwear can be an advantage. Also pack enough food and drink. A hiking map or our free overview map (available at the valley and mountain stations) is recommended. Remember a charged cell phone with the most important emergency numbers (limited network connection in parts of the Oeschinensee), an emergency first-aid kit and a pocket knife.

What outdoor guidelines apply to rockfall?

After rainfall and strong temperature fluctuations (day/night), the risk of rockfall, wet avalanches, debris flow and rockfall increases. Alarm signs are fresh impact marks, rock deposits and outcrops. The more exposed the path, the higher the risk. In such places, it is important to move on quickly. Hiking is always at your own risk. Many rockfalls are often caused by other hikers, mountaineers or animals. Avoid throwing any stones, as you do not know who is below you in the terrain.

What outdoor guidelines apply to behavior on pastures?

Stay calm, do not startle the animals and do not frighten them. Always close the gates and follow the footpaths. In general, cows are curious and harmless. Whether large or small, cows and cattle always perceive your dog as a predator. Keep your dog on a short lead and keep him under control.

What are the outdoor guidelines for fishing/ice fishing at Oeschinensee?

Fishing from the shore and from a rowing boat as well as ice fishing are permitted with a cantonal fishing license in compliance with the regulations on fishing of the Canton of Bern. Daily permits can be purchased at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant or online. Rowing boats (also with fish boxes) can be hired directly on the lake. What outdoor guidelines apply to winter hikes and the "Ice Walk"?

Stay safely on the marked and open winter hiking trails and avoid shortcuts. This also applies to snowshoe hikers. Check the level of difficulty and your equipment carefully for each hike. Be aware that you will be crossing the ski slopes and using them in places. During the "Ice Walk", it is important to observe the clearance of the frozen lake and the avalanche bulletin (SLF), see info screens and information boards in the area.

What outdoor guidelines apply when dealing with social media?

Only post activities that are permitted. Publishing prohibited activities can have legal consequences. Remember that content on the internet remains visible for a long time. Only publish photos, videos or quotes on websites and social media from people who have expressly given you their consent to do so (personal rights). Commercial photo shoots are also not permitted at Oeschinensee .

What outdoor guidelines apply to plants and collecting dry wood?

The entire Oeschinensee consists of individual protection zones such as the plant conservation area, BLN, UNESCO World Heritage Site, dry meadows and wildlife rest areas. Many plant species are very rare and strictly protected. Stay on the paths. As a general rule: picking, digging up, trampling and cutting down are undesirable or prohibited.

What outdoor guidelines apply when dealing with snakes?

There are numerous snakes in the Oeschinensee area, including poisonous ones. Stay on the paths and keep your dog on a short lead. Remain calm at all times and move away whenever possible if you see a snake. If you are bitten and are not sure which snake it is, contact the rescue service (1414) and the ranger (0041 79 603 28 78) immediately. Take a photo of the snake if possible and observe the site of the bite closely.

Which outdoor guidelines apply to watercraft and sports equipment on Oeschinensee?

Please note that the Oeschinensee Cable car does not transport water sports equipment (SUPs, folding boats, foil boards, etc.). Rowing boats can be hired on the lake.

What are the outdoor guidelines for sledging?

Our toboggan run is marked and signposted. The majority of you share it with pedestrians, skiers and snowboarders. Keep your distance from other people and stay on the marked and open sledge run. You can hire a sledge at the mountain station. Sledging on the ski slope is prohibited. Sledging is permitted in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

What are the outdoor guidelines for paragliding in the Lake Oeschinen area?

Parties and events with loud music, alcohol and noise etc. are out of place and not welcome. On the other hand, we are happy to welcome groups who respect the animals and plants and enjoy nature with care. Please observe the outdoor guidelines, be careful and protect nature.

What are the outdoor guidelines for snowshoeing?

When snowshoeing, we are in the middle of the habitat of numerous wild animals. These must not be disturbed. It is therefore important to stay on the marked trails. Always wear warm winter hiking boots and clothing.

Which outdoor guidelines apply to tent roofs, awnings and sun protection?

Tent roofs and awnings are not permitted. They irritate large and small game and birds and have a lasting effect on animal behavior. However, we strongly advise our guests to use sun protection. Hats, sun creams and sunglasses, as well as staying in the shade and covering your skin are good measures to take.

What are the outdoor guidelines for skiing and snowboarding?

The Oeschinensee ski area follows the international FIS rules on the slopes. For your own protection and the protection of wild animals, please stay on the marked ski slopes and follow the signs. The piste and rescue service only monitors and controls the marked and open pistes and winter hiking trails.

Is it possible to enter Oeschinensee in winter?

If the ice is thick enough and there is enough snow on Oeschinensee , the "Ice Walk" is prepared on the lake. This is open to all pedestrians. Good, warm winter hiking boots are required. During the "Ice Walk", it is important to observe the clearance for walking on the frozen lake and the avalanche bulletin on site.

Can you go winter hiking in the Oeschinensee area?

Yes, you can take a beautiful winter hike from the mountain station to the shores of Lake Oeschinen. We recommend trail D via the Läger to the viewpoint and then the direct trail C from the lake back to the mountain station. When open, the Ice Walk on the frozen lake offers an additional special winter hiking opportunity. Good, warm winter hiking boots or snowshoes are required.

Can I hire sledges somewhere?

Yes, sledges can be hired at the Oeschinensee mountain station for CHF 20 per day. There is a short toboggan run from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. The way back to the mountain station is on foot. Duration: approx. 30-40 minutes. Sledging is also permitted in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

Is it possible to skate on Oeschinensee ?

No, in order for Oeschinensee to be opened for ice skating, the lake has to freeze "black". This only happens very rarely. If skating is possible, we will inform you on our website. Entering Lake Oeschinen is at your own risk. In addition, the information screens, information boards and barriers must be observed. There is no infrastructure on site, such as changing rooms or similar, and no skate rental. If the ice is covered with snow, skating is not possible - which is usually the case in winter.

Can you go ice fishing at Oeschinensee ?

Yes, ice fishing is normally possible from January 1st. Check our website before you arrive to find out whether the lake is open for ice fishing. An individual assessment of the situation must always be carried out on site (consult the SLF avalanche bulletin, check ice thickness, etc.). Entering Lake Oeschinen is at your own risk; please also observe the info screens, information boards and barriers.

Is it possible to snowshoe in the Oeschinensee area?

Yes, a snowshoe trail leads from the valley station directly to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. Duration of the hike approx. 1.5 hours. Depending on the weather conditions, the snowshoe trail is only suitable for experienced snowshoers. Alternatively, you have the option of snowshoeing from the mountain station on the official winter hiking trails.

Is there a toboggan run that leads down into the valley?

The toboggan run into the valley is permanently closed due to the risk of rockfall. This is an official closure. There is a leisurely toboggan run from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen. The way back to the mountain station is on foot. Duration: approx. 30-40 minutes. Good, warm winter hiking boots are required. Sledging is also possible in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

What outdoor guidelines apply to winter or ice swimming?

Be careful when ice bathing in water temperatures around freezing point, do not underestimate the cold! Ice holes must be at least 50 m away from the tracked "Ice Walk". In addition, the SOS patroller must be informed of every ice hole (0041 79 481 01 12). No entry or stay in the restricted zones (see signaling, fencing, yellow buoys). The frozen lake may only be entered when it has been officially cleared, and only from 09:00-16:00. The area must be left before dark; the last cable car ride from the mountain station must be observed.

How is the piste and rescue service provided?

The daily monitoring of the marked and open pistes and paths ends with the final check at 17:00. Outside the operating hours, all slopes and winter hiking trails are closed and not secured against dangers such as avalanche blasting, snow groomers, etc. In the event of incidents during operating hours, please contact the SOS patroller +41 481 01 12. Yes, there is a small snow park. The "Oeschipark" offers various fun elements and jibs for beginners. The snow park is located in the immediate vicinity of the Bire lift. Whether you're just starting out or want to refine your tricks, the Oeschipark is the perfect place!

Is there a beginners' park for skiers or snowboarders?

Yes, after a short ride on the Cable car you will reach the mountain station. Right next to it is the Oeschiland beginners' park, for young and old snow bunnies and ideal for families with children. With a large and a small magic carpet, children's lift, 2 fun carousels and various play figures as well as a sledge run.

Is it possible to ski in the Oeschinensee area?

Yes, after a short ride on the Cable car you will reach the mountain station. The Oeschinensee ski area has two T-bar lifts (Birelift, Wittenenlift) with blue and red pistes. The Oeschiland beginners' park is located right next to the mountain station. There is also a snow park at the "Bire" ski lift.

Our toboggan run is marked and signposted. The majority of you share it with pedestrians, skiers and snowboarders. Keep your distance from other people and stay on the marked and open sledge run. You can hire a sledge at the mountain station. Sledging on the ski slope is prohibited. Sledging is permitted in the Oeschiland beginners' park.

Is my AlpsPass, MagicPass valid?

No, the AlpsPass or MagicPass are not valid at Oeschinensee . You have the option of purchasing a season ticket for the winter season (CHF 100.- for adults, CHF 50.- for children). This offer is only available at the ticket office at the valley station.

Is my Adelboden-Lenk ski pass valid?

No. The Kandersteg ski region is no longer a partner of the IG Skiregion Adelboden-Lenk (IGSAL). It is possible to buy a season connection ticket Adelboden-Lenk for the Oeschinensee: children CHF 23.- adults CHF 46.- exclusively at the ticket office at the valley station. Incl. Sunnbühl: CHF 80.-/40.-.

Is my Adelboden-Lenk points card valid?

No, the Adelboden-Lenk points card cannot be redeemed on the Oeschinensee Cable car . If you still have remaining points on the card, these can be redeemed in the Adelboden-Lenk ski area. At the Oeschinensee mountain station, single and 10-person rides can be purchased at the ticket machine for the ski lift.

Is the Cable car included in the ski pass?

Yes, the cable car ride from the valley station in Kandersteg to the mountain station is included in the ski pass.

Can I buy the ski day pass online?

Ski day tickets are easy to purchase via our ticket store. Load the day pass onto a key card or your SwissPass. Alternatively, day ski passes can also be purchased easily and conveniently at our ticket machines at the valley station or at the ticket office.
