There is an SOS room in the mountain station. Defibrillators are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore.

How do I travel by public transport?

You can reach Kandersteg by train from Spiez and Brig. From Adelboden and Frutigen there is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg. The walk from the station takes about 10-15 minutes. A local bus runs from the station to the valley station for every train arrival/departure from June to October.

Where can I park my car?

The number of parking spaces in Kandersteg is limited at weekends and during the summer season. We recommend that you arrive by public transport. Paid parking spaces are available at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. There are further paid parking spaces in the village. Please follow the parking guidance system and the instructions of the local sales service.

Is my SBB Half-Fare Card/GA valid for the Cable car ?

With an SBB Half-Fare Card/General Abonnement or a Swiss Travel Pass, you can travel on the Cable car at half price. Not valid for ski day tickets. Buy your ticket directly in our ticket store.

How do I get from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen?

Oeschinensee can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes. In summer, a chargeable shuttle bus runs every half hour from the mountain station to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore, and back. Guests with limited mobility have priority on the shuttle bus over all other guests.

What outdoor guidelines apply to drone flying?

Flying drones and model aircraft is prohibited around Oeschinensee . A judicial ban applies, overriding the national (FOCA) and cantonal area flight zones. This protects nature and wildlife and does not disturb other guests. As a drone pilot, you are obliged to find out about the applicable area restrictions before every drone flight. Some drone manufacturers have created their own geofencings. The areas shown there are specified solely by the manufacturer and do not necessarily correspond to the restrictions at Oeschinensee .

How does ticketing work for the Cable car Oeschinensee?

To make your journey with the Cable car as pleasant as possible, we recommend buying your ticket online in advance in the ticket store. With the Boarding Pass, which is included when you buy tickets via our webshop, you also secure a preferred time slot for the ascent so that you can start your ascent at the desired time without having to wait long. How do I make a group reservation?

The best way for groups to book is via the SBB Contact Center on 0848 44 66 88, where payment by invoice, personal advice and flexible adjustments are possible. Alternatively, tickets can also be booked online in the Ticket Shop. To purchase tickets at the ticket office on site, advance registration by e-mail to Cable caroeschinensee is required. It is not necessary to book a time slot - the ascent with the Cable car can be started flexibly between 08:30-16:00. Please note that we do not enter into any contractual agreements or cooperations with third-party providers - only the above-mentioned official channels are available for group bookings.

What should I bear in mind when traveling to Oeschinensee by public transport?

If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend reserving a time slot for the ascent. You can find information on this in the SBB app and in the timetable. Reservations are strongly recommended, as waiting times may occur without a booked time slot (boarding pass).

Is it possible to change or cancel an online booking in the ticket store?

Yes, from the date of validity you can rebook your ticket free of charge and online via the ticket store to a later date, provided seats are available. Can gondola lift tickets be purchased on site?

We generally recommend that you buy your ticket conveniently online in our ticket store. Alternatively, you can also purchase tickets from the ticket machines at the valley and mountain stations. Is it necessary to make a reservation for the Bernese Oberland Pass?

Yes - guests with the Bernese Oberland Pass are strongly recommended to reserve a time slot for the ascent under this link/. The Oeschinensee gondola ride is already included in the Bernese Oberland Pass, so you only need to reserve a time slot for the ascent.

Do children travel free of charge on Cable car?

Yes, children under the age of 6 travel free on the Cable car. The SBB Junior Card is valid, please show it at the ticket office or at the entrance to the Cable car .

What means of payment can I use?

You can pay at the ticket machines and at the ticket office with all major credit and debit cards as well as with Twint. Cash and REKA checks are also accepted. Payment with REKA checks is only possible at the ticket counter. Further information and tickets can be found directly in our ticket store.

Do dogs travel free of charge on the Cable car?

Yes, the day ticket costs CHF 8. The SBB dog pass is accepted on the Cable car Oeschinensee .

What are the outdoor guidelines for cycling?

Cycling of any kind is prohibited in the Oeschinensee area. Out of consideration for our guests, nature and for safety reasons, Oeschinensee can only be visited on foot. There is a judicial ban on cycling (mountain biking, e-biking, etc.). In addition, many forest trails lead through ecologically sensitive areas, i.e. rare and shy wild animals use these areas as retreats and quiet zones.

Are there charging stations for electric cars?

Eight 11kW electric charging stations are available in our "P2" parking lot at the valley station. Entry is also possible when the parking lot is occupied - simply press the button on the entry column. Charging cables can be borrowed from the ticket office.

Where can coaches park?

There are no parking spaces for coaches at the Cable car valley station in Kandersteg. These can be found at various locations in the village. At the valley station, only a short stop for loading and unloading is permitted at the bus stop.

Gastronomy / Overnight stay

What gastronomic offerings are there in the Oeschinensee area?

In the Oeschinensee area there are various gastronomic options available to you. These include the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, the Bergstübli at the mountain station and the Chalet Arva. Here you can enjoy a variety of food and drinks and experience the magnificent view of the surrounding mountain landscape. More information under: Eating and drinking at Oeschinensee.

Is there accommodation available at Oeschinensee ?

During the summer season you can only stay overnight in Chalet Arva. A reservation is mandatory. Camping is only permitted on the campsite at the valley station. Other overnight accommodation is available in Kandersteg and in the Kandertal valley.

Is it possible to buy snacks or something to satisfy a small appetite?

If you are hungry or have a small appetite, you will find a selection of hot and cold snacks as well as a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in the kiosk at the mountain station and in the café-bar by the lake.

Is there a picnic area?

Yes, there is a heated picnic room at the mountain station (around the house, on the 1st floor). Opening hours when the cable car is in operation 09:00-16:00. It is not possible to make a reservation.

What catering options are available for groups in the Oeschinensee area?

Inquiries for group offers can be sent to oeschinensee. In the mountain restaurant on the shores of Lake Oeschinen we offer special menus for groups, which can be enjoyed both in the cozy Bergstübli inside and on the sunny terrace outside.

Where are the toilets located in the Oeschinensee area?

The public toilets are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the mountain restaurant on the lake shore. There are more toilets in Oeschinensee. Going to the toilet in nature should be avoided. However, if you do need to use the "natural toilet", please do not leave any paper, tissues or wet wipes behind.

Are lockers available at the top or bottom station?

Yes, there are lockers and ski racks at the top and bottom stations. Payment can be made digitally by debit card, Visa/Mastercard, Twint or cash. Weekly and season passes for lockers and ski racks are available at the ticket office.

Is the Cable car to Oeschinensee wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the mountain station can be reached with the wheelchair-accessible Cable car . During the summer season, a chargeable shuttle bus runs every half hour from there to the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore, and back. One wheelchair can be transported per trip.

What outdoor guidelines apply to the "Spitze Stei" exclusion zone?

A large part of the south-eastern shore of Oeschinensee has been declared a restricted area by the Canton of Bern due to rockfall and the risk of falling rocks. There is an absolute ban on entering here! There is a danger to life! Please also draw the attention of others who wish to enter the area and/or call the ranger on +41 79 603 28 78. What applies to guests with limited mobility?
