NO car access

All cars must be parked in Kandersteg. Car access to the lake or the hotel is not permitted by law. There is no taxi service provided for late arrivals in the hotel.

Signal is very bad...

Mobile phone reception is very bad around the lake. Be aware, that in most areas you will not be able to phone or send text messages.

The road is marked, near the Kandersteg tourist office and the village council offices with a brown sign marked “Oeschinensee”. There is a large parking area near the lower station which costs CHF 5 per day. Special parking spaces are reserved for tour buses. Here you might find more about the cable car.
The Oeschinensee can only be reached on foot or with the cable car – not with a car. In Winter the upper station can be reached on foot or with skis, snowboard or sled. The access of the private road is blocked by a barrier, driving up is forbidden by law.

Your final destination is Kandersteg

The regional express train Lötschberger brings you directly from Bern (north of Kandersteg) or Brig (south of Kandersteg) to Kandersteg. From the train station it’s a 15 minutes walk or an 8 minutes bus ride to the cable car lower station. Trains to and from Kandersteg each hour. In Kandersteg there is only one train station...

From the airport

From Kandersteg to Oeschinensee

On foot

Start your hike at the bottom station of the cable car. Follow the yellow signs to Oeschinensee. The hike to the lake takes about 1 hour, 400 m altitude. Even if you take the cable car, you walk 25 minutes from the top station to the lake.

Please check out the timetable of the cable car. If you miss the last cable, there is no other way than walking up to Oeschinensee. From the top station to the lake you may walk (25 minutes) or take the electric mobile (8 mins, CHF 8 per ride).
