Further information on the transport of mountain bikes & roadworthy sports equipment
The "Spitze Stei" danger zone has been permanently closed since 2019. The paved road from Oeschinen to Kandersteg was also closed. The current road is an emergency road - only for transportation and car traffic.

Last summer, there were frequent and sometimes very dangerous situations involving bicycles: Collisions with pedestrians, transport vehicles or self-inflicted falls. The Oeschinenholz Alpine Cooperative, as the land and road owner, has decided to tighten the existing ban on unauthorized riding.

When transporting sports equipment in both winter and summer, Cable car Kandersteg Oeschinensee AG is liable in the event of accidents. The Board of Directors has decided that it does not wish to assume this responsibility in summer. The transportation of bicycles or dangerous sports equipment will therefore no longer be carried out from summer 2021.We very much regret this decision, but the safety of visitors is our top priority.

Further information on the "Spitze Stei" restricted area can be found on the website of the municipality of Kandersteg.
