The crackling of the fire, the flickering flames and the smell of grilled food in the air. The thought of a campfire warms the cockles of your heart! Whether as a highlight of the day with the children, for a snack in between or to warm your tired feet by the fire and bring the day to a close - "Füürle" (making a fire) and "Brätle" (barbecuing) are always well received. Our fire pits offer the perfect place for special experiences in the open air. They are the ideal meeting place for every occasion - whether for romantic hours for two, social gatherings with friends or a relaxed family time. Enjoy the furnished fireplaces surrounded by beautiful nature directly on the shores of Lake Oeschinen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Fireplaces are mostly equipped with a tripod or a barrel, a grill and simple seating.
  • Locations of the official fireplaces can be found here on the map.
  • No reservation for fireplaces. They are open to the public and therefore cannot be reserved. We recommend that you arrive early on your preferred day.

BARBECUE SAFELY
  • Danger of forest fires Due to the risk of forest fires, fires and barbecues are only permitted at the official fireplaces, see map.
  • Wood The felling of trees, branches etc. from the natural environment is prohibited in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Private property In principle, outdoor barbecuing is permitted in Switzerland - as long as neither public nor private property is damaged. The area around Oeschinensee is private property.
  • Information Before your arrival, be sure to visit the website waldbrandgefahr.ch for the current danger level, as the risk of forest fires changes rapidly.

  • Grill-Bags Dry firewood is available for CHF 12.50 per barbecue bag at the restaurant Oeschinensee, on the lakeshore.
  • "Do good" The grill bags are produced by maxi.mumm, an integrative workshop for the long-term unemployed. The wood comes 100% from Switzerland.

What you should know.

How do I travel by public transport?

From Spiez and Brig you can reach Kandersteg by train (BLS). From Adelboden and Frutigen there is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg. The walk from the station takes about 10 minutes. A local bus runs from the station to the valley station for every arrival/departure from June to October.

What means of payment can I use?

You can pay at the ticket machines and at the ticket office with all major credit and debit cards as well as with Twint. Cash and REKA checks are also accepted. Payment with REKA checks is only possible at the ticket counter.

Do children travel free of charge on Cable car?

Yes, children under the age of 6 travel free on the Cable car. The SBB Junior Card is valid, please show it at the ticket office or at the turnstile.

What outdoor guidelines apply to the use of toilets?

The public toilets are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the mountain restaurant on the lake shore. There are more toilets in Oeschinensee(see map). Going to the toilet in nature should be avoided. However, if you do need to use the "natural toilet", please do not leave any paper, tissues or wet wipes behind.

What outdoor guidelines apply to parties and events?

Parties and events with loud music, alcohol and noise etc. are out of place and not welcome. On the other hand, we are happy to welcome groups who respect the animals and plants and enjoy nature with care. Please observe the outdoor guidelines, be careful and protect nature.

What are the outdoor guidelines for making a fire and barbecuing?

Only use the official barbecue sites to make a fire. Due to the risk of forest fires, fires are only permitted at official barbecue sites (see map). Cutting down trees, branches etc. from the wild is prohibited. Firewood "grill bags" can be purchased at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore. However, you should check the website waldbrandgefahr.ch for the current danger level beforehand, as the risk of forest fires changes rapidly.

What outdoor guidelines apply to waste collection and separation?

Collect the waste and dispose of it in the waste stations. Waste separation stations are located at the mountain and valley stations, at the mountain coaster and along the main hiking trails.

What outdoor guidelines apply to drone flying?

Flying drones and model aircraft is prohibited in Oeschinensee. There is a judicial ban, overriding the national (FOCA) and cantonal area flight zones. In this way we protect nature and wildlife and do not disturb other guests. As a drone pilot, you are obliged to find out about the applicable area restrictions before every drone flight. Some drone manufacturers have created their own geofencings. The areas shown there are specified solely by the manufacturer and do not necessarily have to comply with the legally prescribed restrictions at Oeschinensee .

What are the outdoor guidelines for camping and bivouacking?

Wild camping and overnight stays in the great outdoors are prohibited. Camping, bivouacking and spending the night in hammocks or similar is prohibited by law. Wild animals must not be disturbed at night. There is a campsite at the valley station in Kandersteg. Unauthorized vehicles have no access to Oeschinensee. The rule of quiet at night applies (from 22:00).

Which outdoor guidelines should be observed when providing first aid?

In an emergency, call the rescue service immediately (telephone number 1414). You should also inform the ranger (079 603 28 78) in summer and the SOS patroller (079 481 01 12) in winter. There is an SOS room in the mountain station. Defibrillators are located at the mountain and valley stations and at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant, near the lakeshore.
